Military Naturalization

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has created a streamlined process specifically for military personnel serving in active-duty status or recently discharged.

Do You Qualify?

The first step is determining whether you are qualified for naturalization. If you fit either of the descriptions below, than you are qualified to apply for naturalization.

1) You have served in the U.S. Armed Forces and you are a Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) with at least three (3) years of U.S. Armed Forces and you are either on active duty or filing within 6 months of honorable discharge.

OR

2) You have served in the U.S. Armed Forces during a period of recognized hostilities* and enlisted or re-enlisted in the United States (you do not need to be a Lawful Permanent Resident).

*The President signed an Executive Order identifying September 11, 2001 and after as an authorized period of conflict.

Filing the Application

If you qualify, you must file an N-400 (Application for Naturalization), an N-426 (Request for Certification of Military or Naval Services, which must be certified by the military), and a G-325B (Biographic Information) with the Nebraska Service Center.

You should also contact your designated Point-of-Contact (POC), who can help you with the application, can certify you N-426, and will schedule your interview and the date you can take your oath of allegiance. Designated POCs are listed below.

  • ASIA/PACIFIC: Requests for processing in Japan, Korea and other parts of East Asia, Southeast Asia, Pacific Islands and Australasia, should be submitted by email to USCIS Seoul at: CIS.Seoul@dhs.gov

  • EUROPE/MIDDLE EAST/AFRICA or SOUTH and NEAR ASIA: Requests for processing in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, or South Asia should be submitted by email to USCIS Rome at: Rome.Natz@dhs.gov

  • LATIN AMERICA/CARIBBEAN: Requests for processing in Latin America or the Caribbean should be submitted by fax to USCIS Mexico City at: +52 555 080 2326
