Diwaniya PRT
The Diwaniyah Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) is a civilian-military unit that assists Diwaniyah provincial and local governments to govern effectively and deliver essential services. The PRT comprises U.S. diplomats, military officers, development experts, and other specialists in fields such as rule of law, engineering, and agribusiness. Planning is in progress to expand the PRT and move it to a more opportune location. This move would greatly help facilitate engagements at the provincial level.
The PRT, in close coordination with the Army Corps of Engineers, is funding projects to construct:
- New feeder lines from existing substations for electricity generation in Al Mutaqaedin.
- A water station at Al Qadisiyah University.
- Sewer systems in Hay Alaroba and Hay Al Sadr.
- Paved roads in Hay Alforat, Hay Altaameem, Hamza village in Aal Ghanam and between Shafiyah and Noriyah.
- A public rehabilitation and health center at Al-Jumhoury
- Secondary schools
Education Projects
The PRT also provides smaller grants to assist local universities to acquire books and funds training to local judges. The U.S. Agency for International Development's Local Governance Program provides a team that offers training and technical advice to members of the Provincial and Local Councils in Diwaniyah to improve the operation, efficiency, and effectiveness of the provincial government.
